Falls in the Forest

Here’s another shot from Alaska.  I’m not exactly sure which stop on our cruise this was but I saw similar landscapes many times.  Thick, lush, deep green forests on the side of a very steep mountain.  Then there would be a white streak running down the hill.  A cool mountain stream crashing down, carving a small slice in the trees.  What I really wanted to do was get some gold pans and do some panning.  There is so much gold in Alaska that you can probably find some where ever there is a river or creek running.  We did some panning in Juneau and in a short amount of time we had a few flakes.  There was one lady that thought the guys running the operation had sprinkled some flakes into everybodies pans before we got there.  So when she asked the ole grizzled miner about this he promply dumped her pan out, dug back into the stream and within two minutes he was showing her some more new flakes.  Sounds like easy money right?  Well my back was killing me after about twenty minutes of this and my return was only a few dollars.  Still, to see scenery like this everyday may be worth more than any amount of money you could dig up from the ground.
